Meath County Council is the primary unit of Local Government in County Meath and was established in 1899.
It, together with the three Town Councils: Navan, Trim and Kells, provide an extensive range of infrastructural services, as well as providing for the democratic representation of the local community by the elected Councilors. There are 29 members on the Council and Local Elections are held every five years.
Meath Local Authorities operate within a wide-ranging legislative framework to implement Government policy and act as a local regulator and an agent of Government.
